iPad App Reviews: iDraft for the iPad

Wondershare has released a drawing notebook for the iPad called “iDraft.”

iDraft is setup as a virtual notebook in which users can create and manage individual notes. iDraft is not a note-taking application in the sense that EverNote is a note-taking application. iDraft does not handle text and deals strictly with notes that are created with the provided drawing tools. That being said, iDraft performs very well as a drawing application. There’s virtually no lag between your finger touching the screen and the resulting line showing up.

The user interface works well enough. You can modify the width of your pen, change colors and make use of an eraser to draw your notes. It’s not as full featured as many of the drawing applications for the iPad, but provides enough functionality to effectively draw notes on the device.

One feature that the application has is the ability to tag notes with a photo from your library to serve as a sort of cover flow for the app. We’re not sure why Wondershare put this functionality into the app and it doesn’t appear to be particularly useful.

You can export your notes by saving a page as a PNG image to your photo library or to a PDF file. You also have the ability to email individual notes or your entire notebook to friend. Us

Here are the features listed in the application’s official description:

  • Select a cover image from your library to create a new note with an infinite number of pages. Name, edit or delete for each note
  • Preview entire notebook by moving the scroll bar and quickly find the exact page
  • Undo and redo on each page, along with a standard eraser tool
  • Pick color for line and change line width
  • Save single pages as a PNG format to your photo library
  • Email single pages or entire notebooks to your colleagues or friends. PDF is supported for full notebooks

The application is currently available for free on the App Store, however, the application’s description suggests that the app may cost money in the future.

Twitterrific Releases Universal App for iPhone, iPod and iPad

Twitterrific has released version 3.0 of its iOS offering which combines three of its previous offerings, Twitterrific for iPad, Twitterrific for iPhone, and Twitterrific Premium for iPhone, into a single ad-supported universal application which works on all iOS devices. The app’s developers have also updated Twitterrific to take advantage of iOS 4.0′s fast-app switching support and the iPhone 4′s new Retina display.

The new features of the App also include a light appearance theme, which users can enable via the settings app. Twitterrific 3 also boasts a clean and simpler user interface on the iPhone. The developers have also added in VoiceOver accessibility for the visually impaired and relationship information on user profiles indicating whether or not you are following someone or they’re following you. Minor bug fixes related to lost tweets and URL shortening have been fixed.

If you are an existing Twitterrific user on the iPad, your application should update normally. Existing Twitterrific users on the iPhone will have to re-download the application from the App Store to get the new version. Twitterrific is free, but a $5.00 in-app purchase will remove the ads and allow support for multiple accounts.

If you have already paid for the in-app purchase on the iPad, you can get on the iPhone for free by clicking the upgrade button on the app. Unfortunately existing Twitterrific Premium for iPhone users will have to re-pay the $5.00 fee within the new Twitterrific app. “Unfortunately… Apple doesn’t provide for upgrades in iTunes,” developer Craig Hockenberry responded on Twitter to a curious customer in regards to the matter. “Tell Apple on their feedback page.”

App Reviews: Bills for iPad

“Bills for iPad” is an iPad application which helps users keep track of their monthly financial obligations and is currently on sale for $1.99. The app normally retails for $3.99.

The apps sole purpose is to help you keep track of your monthly bills so that you don’t miss a payment and get tacked with a late fee. The application delivers well on what it promises. After loading the application, you’re presented with a monthly calendar and a list of your bills for the month. You can add a bil, choose how often you have to pay the bill (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly), enter an amount and a description, then that bill will show up on the calendar every time its due.

The categories that users can choose from are “communication”, “credit cards”, “household”, “insurance”, “loans”, “other”, and “taxes.” There’s probably quite a few monthly obligations that the developers missed in the latest release. The only two credit card options are “Visa” and “Mastercard.”We’re hoping that the developers will add additional categories, such as investments and entertainment services (think Netflix or Audible)  in the future.

You can also export your monthly bills into a CSV or HTML file via e-mail or over Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi export feature actually sets up a local web-server on your machine and instructs you to browse to a URL it provides to download your file.  You can choose a PIN number to lock the application so that only you can view your bills as well.

Here’s the official description from the App Store.

Set a figure indicating how much you want to spend this month. Mark days on the big calendar when you need to pay for anything or buy anything. Then when you actually have a transaction, approve it quickly (you may also approve it partially and reschedule the rest of the payment). Easily filter your bills and payments via the calendar and special boxes to show your planned, overdue and paid expenses & bills. If you spend too much, the green bar above the calendar will help you to understand it. Extra features: export to HTML and CSV (Excel), and set up a PIN code to protect your entries!

each element reminds of real office room objects, which are so familiar to all of us and help to concentrate when taking care of the bills and expenses. Flip board shows the list of your transactions. Big projector screen shows you a calendar view of the current month. Office folders are reserved for extra features. Drawers are meant to serve as filters. And when you add or edit entries, you will see a memo book page.

Bills for iPad is currently available (on sale) for $1.99 on the App Store.

Apple’s “Find my iPhone” app is available for download from the iTunes Store. The app itself is free, but requires that you are a member of MobileMe, which has an annual subscription cost of $99 in the US. If you are not yet a MobileMe member, you can sign up for a free 60-day trial to try it out before you buy it.

The newly-released “Find my iPhone” app helps you track or find a stolen or lost iPhone or iPad – as long as you have another iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to help you find it! You can install the free app on any other iOS device, sign in with your MobileMe member name and password, and use it to locate your lost iPhone or iPad. A map is displayed to show you where to look. You can use the app to remotely lock the device so it can’t be used to protect your privacy, or wipe it out to delete all personal and sensitive data which might be on your device – including credit card information. If you’ve lost the device in your home, you can trigger a sound for two minutes at full volume – even if you had your device set on silent!

“Find my iPhone” App Features:

  • See your iPhone or iPad location on a map display
  • Play a sound for two minutes at full volume to help locate device
  • Lock your device remotely to prevent someone from accessing
  • Delete all data from the device remotely to prevent someone from accessing information or gaining credit card information and other sensitive, personal data.
  • Display a message on the lost iPhone or iPad screen asking them to call you so you can pick up your device
