Amazon has provided an update to the company’s Kindle iPad and iPhone application featuring UI tweaks, additional font sizes and the ability for iPhone users to search inside of a book.
The 2.1 release of the Kindle now provides additional font sizes to users. The update allows users to choose much larger font sizes making the application more accessible to the visually impaired. The app now also provides a real time download progress indicator showing how long users will have to wait until their e-book has download. Another usability change has made it easier for iPad users to navigate between their downloaded items and the items that they own, but are considered to be archived.
Amazon has set some lofty feature goals for its Kindle application, such as being able to look up words in a dictionary and the ability to search through books on the iPad, a feature which is currently only available for iPhone users. Amazon.com also hopes to allow users to look up words using Google and Wikipedia. Apple has not disclosed when a release with those pending features would be available.
The company has also said that in the future it would like to give users the ability to change the font color, background color and the reading fonts that users can choose from, features which are already included in Barnes & Noble’s reading application for the iPad.
